Walking In

What better way to reach The Old Forge than “shank’s pony” walking in, via Glendessary, Glen Meadall or Kinlochhourn this will fairly put a spring in your step and colour in your cheeks. Feel free to post on your gear to the pub if you fancy the lure of a hot shower, clean change of socks and a pint of cask conditioned real ale to accompany a juicy steak or fresh seafood platter at the Old Forge (please just let us know in advance). Knoydart has a lot to offer for walkers looking to explore the "Rough Bounds" whether it’s a low level walk or expedition in and around the area. Out of Knoydart's 85 square miles there are 4 Munros (mountains over 3,000ft) and several smaller peaks. All are separated by broad glens, rivers and high lochs.

Munros: Ladhar Bheinn, Sgurr Na Ciche, Luinne Bheinn, Meall Buidhe

Corbetts: Sgurr Coire Coinnichein, Beinn Na Caillich and Beinn Bhuide

Main access to Inverie is by boat across Loch Nevis from Mallaig or a long walk overland from Loch Arkaig or Kinlochhourn, Shiel Bridge or Cluanie Inn also from Glenfinnan. Knoydart is designated as a National Scenic Area.
